Ukraine and Food Security
Suddenly having enough food for everyone in the world to eat is trumping climate change.
The Russia-Ukraine war has really put food security for a lot of the world in jeopardy. Just google “Ukraine War Food Security” and you will find a ton of articles like this. Food security was a concern 3 weeks ago as climate activists try to remove ruminants from our diet and they push renewable diesel which will divert millions of acres from growing food to growing oil crops.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has taken food security from a concern to what many think is a genuine crisis. Since Russia is the largest exporter of wheat and Ukraine is the 5th largest exporter, we truly have a lot to be concerned about. When it comes to geopolitical information, I think Peter Zeihan is really good. I wanted to send you all a link to his current newsletter which addresses the agricultural challenges presented to the world by the Ukraine conflict.
Not just food but metals and energy are scarce and prices are reflecting that. What is amazing to me is that many are worried about this crisis derailing the climate change agenda. I have a suggestion: How about we push pause on the climate change agenda, try to find a way to navigate through the storm that is coming, and THEN worry about what happens to renewables?
